Danilo Silva – Biography

Danilo Silva received the B.Sc. degree from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), Recife, Brazil, in 2002, the M.Sc. degree from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2005, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada, in 2009, all in electrical engineering.

From 2009 to 2010, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Toronto, at the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), and at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). In 2010, he joined the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Florianópolis, Brazil, where he is currently an Associate Professor and leader of the Machine Learning and Applications Research Group. His current research interests include machine learning, computer vision, signal processing, and their applications. His previous research interests include wireless communications, network coding, channel coding, and information theory.

Dr. Silva is a member of the Brazilian Telecommunications Society (SBrT) and the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC). He was a recipient of a CAPES Ph.D. Scholarship in 2005, the Shahid U.H. Qureshi Memorial Scholarship in 2009, and a FAPESP Postdoctoral Scholarship in 2010. He also served as Technical Program Co-Chair of the XXXVIII Brazilian Symposium on Telecommunications and Signal Processing (SBrT 2020).
